Trying to keep a good outlook on life with a touch of silly with a lot of love and laughter!

Lilly with Ms. Puddifoot as a kitten.

Merry meet all, well I debated sharing too much about Etain and myself, thinking it was just not really professional, but pfaw, we're all friends here, right? Besides, just sharing informational stuff gets boring, and the interesting stuff is the personal stuff, I think. If you disagree, that's okay; skip this post. I'll have some more information coming up in a couple of days.

Anyway, Etain and I have a tiny farm. I really should refer to it as a rescue since almost all of our animals came to us that way, but we love 'em all the same. There is one exception, and that is our pitbull Lilly. She is a blue nose staffy and loves everyone and everything. If you stop by, she will try to go home with you as the UPS guy, and the bus driver found out first hand when she got away from me. She loves to baby anything, and in her heyday, she helped nurse kittens and tried numerous times to kidnap skunks (much to my chagrin). All the kitties love her, and when she goes out, they all love on her and snuggle. It's adorable.,

Our recent addition is Julian; he is still a puppy and is very loving. A friend of Etain's gifted me a giant stuffed unicorn that Julian took ownership of as his love slave. From the time he was 6 months old until he had torn all of the stuffing out of it, he loved that thing to death on so many levels. He developed a unicorn fetish which became apparent when we had to put the huge deflated carcass in the trash; he started in with yet another stuffed unicorn that was a pillow. The only problem with it was the fluff. He would pull out their fluff,

and it would be everywhere! I could sweep the entire house, and when I was done, there would be more, just out of nowhere. Why do I share this with you? I promise there is a reason.

We also had an off-track thoroughbred that we were surprised with at an auction. I'll admit that I started the bidding, but then I was truly swatting flies, and when the auctioneer shouted sold, I looked up to see him pointing at me. I was shocked, but he turned out to be the most amazing and personable horse ever. His name was Thor. He was old, though, and had an accident in his stall and had to be put down a little over a week ago. It's still hard to talk about. Sally is a mini pony that was his pasture mate and bonded friend. When Thor passed, she took it pretty hard. Bear with me; I promise this story gets better. We had her in a temporary fence we just set up for the dogs outside of my bedroom so she could be close to us. Etain and I were so distracted that it took a little time for us to notice that Julian (Jules) had sensed her distress and refused to leave her side. It was so sweet; he nuzzled her as he does with us when he shows us affection. When we put her back in her stall at night, he would howl at the door until we let him go to see her. First thing in the morning, he would cry until we let her out.

The last week or so, the weather was nice enough that she has been out all day and night, and I leave the door open for Jules to go in and out of the house as he pleases so he doesn't stress. He can check on Sally anytime he wishes.

Slowly Etain and I noticed that Jules wasn't just hanging out with Sally; he was grazing next to her. Julian is a very picky eater, so we tried an experiment and threw out some Kale for Sally to eat. Jules bounced over and dove into it but was not pleased with the taste. Instead, he pretended to eat it and just shredded it into tiny pieces.

You might be wondering if this is a match made in the stars. However, Sally is still on the fence about Jules. I think she's grateful for the companionship and company, and she tolerates him, but we think she gets on his nerves because now

and then, when he goes inside, she nudges the door until the block I have keeping it open comes loose and she can slam it closed. Every time she does it, Etain and I giggle. There have even been a few times that she sees him on his way out, and she tries to close the door before he gets there.

We started referring to Sally as Jule's girlfriend, and slowly it dawned on us that she is not much bigger than the giant unicorn Jules had as a pup. In fact, the size difference between him then and now is just about the same correlation. As the realization sunk in that Sally was his shiny new unicorn, we laughed until we couldn't breathe. Suddenly Jules has a new "voice" he sounds a lot like Luther Vandross with a little Pepe LePew throwing around a lot of "hey girl" and "how are YOU doin' my little buttercup?"

Ok, those of you who have animals and a sense of humor know what I'm talking about. Don't lie; we all do it, we put a voice to those looks that our animals give us or their little antics, and we do it to entertain our loved ones or ourselves. Yes, I'm talking about you! In a matter of moments, Jules went from annoying hyper child to smooth operator.

Anyway, yesterday Etain mentioned that Sally needed to be shaved. She's a hairy beast, and every spring, we shave her to give her some relief from the heat. We call it her spa day. She loves all the attention and the fact that it feels so much cooler. I didn't even have to hold her; she just stood there while I shaved her and brushed her, and loved on her. When I was done, she was only half the pony she was when we started. The rest lay on the ground. Tons of hair and fur. she went from being shaggy to sleek and dainty. Then we let Jules out. He ran right over to her and sniffed her; of course, she smelled good because she had a bath with Love and Planet shampoo and conditioner. He grazed for a couple of moments, and when he saw the rest of her lying on the ground, he went to investigate. He stopped dead and stared at Sally, then at the pile, then at me, then at me, then at me accusingly like, "why did you pull all her stuffing out, MOM?" Then he wandered off like he was grumbling to himself and threw himself on the ground, pouting. I even got the glare over the shoulder before he flopped down dramatically. I thought to myself, great; I've got a tweenage dog with an attitude. I did not sign up for this. Thank the Goddess. He's not a girl.

I'll have to tell you about the familiar starter kits; uh, I mean kittens, we're raising for ya'll next time.

Love, Light, Joy, and Blessings

Jules and his first love.
